Sun City West is about 43 miles from Terminal 4 by road, and roughly 38 minutes at four in the morning. The fare is $90 for the whole van — one passenger or six, same number — and $100 coming back the other way, which includes the $10 airport pickup fee.

That figure is not a fixed rate everywhere. Fares start at $70 for the van and go by distance beyond 33.3 miles at $2.10 a mile. Sun City West sits just past that point, which is why it is $90 rather than the $70 minimum. Your own street will measure a little differently from the town centre, so the quote form is the authority on your trip.

What it costs, against a per-passenger shuttle

Most shuttles out here price per person. We price the van. Here is a real quote from Sun City Express's own booking system, pulled 2026-09-10:

The point is the slope, not the starting figure: their price climbs $18 with every additional passenger and ours does not climb at all. Travelling alone, a per-passenger fare is very likely cheaper and you should take it. From two people up, the van is the better deal, and the gap widens with every extra head.

One more thing worth knowing, because it works in your favour on the way home rather than the way out: their fare is the same in both directions — we checked. Ours is not. Going to the airport we charge $90; collecting you from it we charge $100, because of the $10 airport pickup fee. So the outbound trip above is where we are furthest ahead, and on the return leg the gap narrows by that $10.

The 4:00am run, in order

Out of the R.H. Johnson area we take the Loop 303 south to the I-10, then east to the 24th Street exit. About 38 minutes before six in the morning, when the I-10 through downtown is empty.

We stay off Grand Avenue at every hour. It is the shorter line on a map, but its signals and rail crossings cost more than the extra freeway miles. The same trip runs closer to 62 minutes mid-afternoon. If you want the arithmetic for your own flight, the leave-by table gives pickup times by flight time and origin.

Things that only matter if you drive here

• The interior loops are dark at 4am. Streets off the main arterials have little lighting and house numbers are hard to read. A porch light on makes the difference between arriving and circling.
• Driveways here are shorter than they look. Much of the housing stock has a golf cart occupying the second garage bay, which leaves no room to turn around. We back in from the street rather than attempting a three-point turn on a dark cul-de-sac.
• We text, we don’t honk. At 3:40am on a quiet street with neighbours thirty feet away, a horn is a bad way to start anyone’s morning.
• New addresses get driven the afternoon before where the schedule allows, so the first time we find your house isn’t in the dark with a flight to catch.
• Gate codes are collected when you book, not at the gate.

Where we pick up

Anywhere in Sun City West: the neighbourhoods around all four recreation centres — R.H. Johnson, Beardsley, Palm Ridge and Kuentz — the streets off Meeker and Camino del Sol, and the gated communities on the edges. Also Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, if you are collecting someone or heading out after an appointment.

When the early slots go

From November through mid-April the 4:00–5:30am block books up furthest ahead — routinely three to four weeks — and Sunday and Monday mornings go first. If you are flying out in that window during season, book when you book the flight rather than the week before. Summer is far easier and often same-week.

The six-seat van, and what fits in it

It is a late-model Toyota Sienna: six seats, room for luggage or golf bags with the third row down, and a step-in height of roughly fifteen inches — lower than the SUVs a lot of operators run, which matters more than people expect.
