Sun City West Airport Shuttle

Private door-to-door to Sky Harbor (PHX). One flat fare for the whole van, one to six passengers.

Sun City West is 32 miles from Terminal 4, and about 38 minutes at four in the morning. We charge $70 flat for the whole van on that run — one passenger or six, same number. There is no per-person charge, no night rate and no surge.

What it costs, against the alternative

The largest operator on this route prices per passenger. Sun City Express publishes its rates on the City of Phoenix ground transportation page: “Sun City $36, Sun City West $41, Surprise $44, each additional passenger is $11 more.” Run both to Sky Harbor:

At four passengers or more we are cheaper, and the gap widens from there. Below that they are, and we would rather you knew it than found out afterwards. The 4:00am run, in order

Out of the R.H. Johnson area we take Grand Avenue (US-60) down to the Loop 101, then east on the I-10 to the 24th Street exit. About 38 minutes before six in the morning, when Grand moves freely and the I-10 through downtown is empty.

After roughly 6:15am that changes and the 101 becomes the better road, because Grand’s signals and rail crossings start costing more than the extra miles. The same trip runs closer to 62 minutes mid-afternoon. If you want the arithmetic for your own flight, the leave-by table gives pickup times by flight time and origin.

Things that only matter if you drive here

• The interior loops are dark at 4am. Streets off the main arterials have little lighting and house numbers are hard to read. A porch light on makes the difference between arriving and circling.
• Driveways here are shorter than they look. Much of the housing stock has a golf cart occupying the second garage bay, which leaves no room to turn around. We back in from the street rather than attempting a three-point turn on a dark cul-de-sac.
• We text, we don’t honk. At 3:40am on a quiet street with neighbours thirty feet away, a horn is a bad way to start anyone’s morning.
• New addresses get driven the afternoon before where the schedule allows, so the first time we find your house isn’t in the dark with a flight to catch.
• Gate codes are collected when you book, not at the gate.

Where we pick up

Anywhere in Sun City West: the neighbourhoods around all four recreation centres — R.H. Johnson, Beardsley, Palm Ridge and Kuentz — the streets off Meeker and Camino del Sol, and the gated communities on the edges. Also Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, if you are collecting someone or heading out after an appointment.

When the early slots go

From November through mid-April the 4:00–5:30am block books up furthest ahead — routinely three to four weeks — and Sunday and Monday mornings go first. If you are flying out in that window during season, book when you book the flight rather than the week before. Summer is far easier and often same-week.

What this van is and isn't

It is a late-model Toyota Sienna: six seats, room for luggage or golf bags with the third row down, and a step-in height of roughly fifteen inches — lower than the SUVs a lot of operators run, which matters more than people expect.

It is not a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. There is no ramp and no lift. A folding wheelchair or a walker stows in the back without difficulty, and the driver will help you to the door and to the counter, but a passenger who cannot transfer into a standard vehicle seat needs a ramp van, and we would rather tell you now than at 4am.
